Do you accept used supplies as donations?

We do occasionally accept used items as donations that can be washed/disinfected such as cages, dishes, hides, bottles, and liners. All donations of food, disposable bedding and medicine must be new and unopened.

Do you do piggy meet-and-greets?

We do not typically do meet-and-greets between adoptable guinea pigs and an adopter’s guinea pig(s). This is because car rides and traveling can be stressful for guinea pigs, as well as a drastic change in environment with a lot of new sights, sounds and smells. Guinea pigs are much more likely to lash out and cause a fight when meeting other guinea pigs if they are stressed out or afraid. This is also a risk for spreading bacteria.

The best way to ensure a successful bond between guinea pigs is to house your guinea pigs side-by-side for at least 2 weeks, allowing them to become acquainted safely with a barrier, and giving your new guinea pig time to adjust to their new home. Please see our bonding guide for more information on introducing and bonding guinea pigs.

Do you need volunteers?

We are always looking for honest and hard-working volunteers to join our team! Volunteer opportunities include cage cleaning, fostering, transportation, and more. Individuals interested in becoming a volunteer are welcome during our walk-in hours (Saturdays 10am-2pm) to learn about caring for our rescue piggies and allow us to get to know you.

Do you need foster homes?

We do utilize foster homes for permanent residents who are not adoptable due to health conditions and temporarily if guinea pigs need treatment before becoming adoptable. Fosters should have reliable transportation, ability to take foster guinea pigs to the vet, and live within 30 minutes of Holt, MI. Supplies including a cage, pellets, water bottle, hides, food bowls and a hay bag/bin are provided upon request. All expenses are covered by the rescue.

Can I come in to meet adoptable guinea pigs?

Absolutely! We encourage anyone considering adding guinea pigs to their family to come in, ask questions, spend time with guinea pigs and learn about their care! Guinea pigs can be reserved with their adoption fee, but cannot leave the rescue until an adoption application is processed and a fully setup enclosure photo is approved.

How can I view adoptable guinea pigs?

All of our adoptable guinea pigs can be seen in our Adoptable Pets album on our Facebook page. If you do not have a Facebook account to view this photo album, please send an email to thecozycavygprescue@gmail.com
